Polaroid I Spy Quilt | A Finished Quilt

before we decided to move the UP, i signed up for a bee at my local quilt shop. our group used Tula Pink's City Sampler : 100 Modern Quilt Blocks. i chose block 31 since it resembled a Polaroid block. this was a great chance to use those fun novelty prints for an i spy quilt. i just love the fun scrappy quilt. and with the serpentine quilting, the texture is so snuggly. when the queen received her blocks we were also given a label for our quilt. i am trying hard this year to make sure i label every quilt that i make. so a premade label is just perfect for me. for the sashing i chose the All Caps in Silver Metallic from the Uppercase Collection. it was just the perfect for a child's quilt. Rainbow Fancy Forest | A Finished Quilt

so this quilt has been completed for a few weeks, i just haven't gotten around to posting about it. this year seems to be the year of sewing Elizabeth Hartman patterns. that probably has something to do with Gnome Angel's Elizabeth Hartman Sew-A-Long, but i will take it. since it seems to be a trend with me to own her patterns for awhile before i actual stitch it up. for my version of Fancy Forest, i knew i wanted to add in plenty of color, but still do the small quilt. so that meant not following to pattern for picking colors (go figure i decide to go against the grain) but i love my rainbow version. this is yet another stash busting quilting. minus the background this quilt came from my stash and it felt wonderful sewing with some of my favorite fabrics. there is plenty of Lizzy House, Alison Glass, Cotton+Steel, Kaffe Fassett, and others. for the background i used Essex Yarn Dyed Linen in Indigo. i can't wait to hang this in my bedroom, whenever it gets painted,

Preppy the Whale | A Finished Mini Quilt

so i've had Elizabeth Hartman's Preppy the Whale pattern for what seems like forever. well this week, i decided that i needed a new mini quilt for sewing room and the mini quilt from Preppy the Whale would be the perfect size. for this mini, i decided to work with a limited color palette and what better than my two favorite colors. i knew i wanted lighter shades and move to a darker shade and these fabrics worked perfectly. plus i was able to use a few more of my Lizzy House prints along with some Studio E swirls and Cotton+Steel. for the background i used an old standby, Essex Yarn Dyed Linen in Indigo. for the quilting i kept it pretty simple with a diamond crosshatch using my favorite Aurifil color Dove Gray (#2600). lately i have been playing around with a chunky or wide binding. this is now the second quilt that i have added the chunky binding to and i think i'm in love. the little extra binding really adds a framing quality to the quilt. i have onl

Mini Charm Chocolate Quilt and For the Love of Sewing : A Finished Quilt

So a few weeks ago, I drove down from the UP to spend a girls weekend with some of my quilty BFFs. It was just what the doctor ordered. We were settled into our new home and my hubby started his new job. So a little downtime with friends was nice. I pieced this top while staying with my in-laws during our moving transition period. I made this entirely from my stash and it felt wonderful to make something without buying anything. This is just a fun little quilt. For the retreat I knew I wanted a quick project and to actually finish something. So I did the quilting and bound it. It was nice to get some pictures in the gorgeous snowy setting on the river. We also made mug rugs to swap. I used the mini spools pattern from Thimbleblossoms and added the heart. Another way to use up those precious this scraps.
