Spellbound Quilted Cushion Covers

I'm off to a great start for the third quarter of the finish-a-long. I started these cushion covers back in February, after I purchased the Mini Quick Curve Ruler and wanted to play with it. I have really come to love piecing curves. And these curves are so easy to sew up.

I picked up some Spellbound by Cotton + Steel last fall at my LQS. Since I already had a few Halloween mini quilts, I figured cushions would be perfect for some fall decor (let's be honest this will be on my couch very soon and won't be removed until Thanksgiving!) For each cushion I decided to do a different layout, as I didn't want them to be matchy matchy. The fabric coordinates and that was plenty for me. Once I started quilting them, I was on a roll and didn't want to stop until I had finished these bad boys.

I love the curved herringbone of the cushion. For the quilting I did a basic grid style, but didn't fill in all of the blocks and I love the effect. I like the combination of the curved piecing with the straight line quilting, gives just a nice clean look.

I like the scallop design of this cushion. For the quilting I again did straight lines, but as zigzags. I have decided I need to do more zigzag quilting!

Now to make more cushion covers so I can swap them out whenever I please.

Quilt Stats:
Pattern: Modified Quick Curve Ruler Mini table runner pattern
Dimensions: 18 inches x 18 inches
Quilting: various straight lines motifs

Modern HST Sampler Second Quarter Complete

I fell a little behind this quarter, but still managed to finish all six blocks for the quarter. I am really loving how this quilt is starting to look. Can't wait for the third quarter blocks!

2016 Q3 Proposed Finishes

Last quarter I was very successful with my finishes. It helps that I kept my list fairly small, this quarter I have plenty of projects that are almost done, they just need that extra nudge to the finish line!

First up, I want to finish my Cotton+Steel Halloween pillow covers. I was experimenting with the Quick Curve Mini Ruler and decided to make a few cushions.
***Update*** Finished July 2016

Next is a Doctor Who quilt, that will be a Christmas gift this year. I need to finding backing and quilt, but this should help give me a jump start on my Christmas gifts!
***Update*** Finished July 2016

Next, it is time to use my Hello Darling Layer Cake. I've had the perfect pattern, just not the motivation. So hopefully this will do just that.

Another mini quilt that has been sitting around, time to get it finished up. My Northern Lights Mini or as I'm calling is Morning Light.
***UPDATE***Finished August 2016

Finally I would like to start and finish a Christmas quilt made with some Cotton+Steel fabric.

A little challenging, but this should still be a manageable list for this coming quarter.

For the Love of Orange : A Finished Quilt, FINALLY!

I try to not have too many projects just laying around in an unfinished state, but sometimes life gets in the way and well other times I have quilter's ADD and want to start a new project before I have finished my last project. Well that is exactly what happened with this quilt.

I started cutting out this quilt in March 2014, just after I really started to get into quilting. I finally started piecing it together in June 2014, but never finished, since I started working on my handmade gifts for the Christmas. Plus I found out I was expecting baby number 2 during this time and all of my sewing energy was zapped. Well needless to say I finally finished piecing the top together in January 2015 so I could get the strips off the crib for a baby that was going to be arriving soon.

I had decided that I didn't want to bast or try and quilt this beast when I was 8 months pregnant, so I stashed in my WiP pile and began on other projects. I originally planned on finishing this quilt before the end of 2015, yeah that didn't happen, then I added it to my 2016 Q1 List for the Finish A Long and it still didn't happen. But this June I finally pulled it out and quilted it up, since it was my project for Stitched Studio's CEO Club. Without that I think this quilt would still be in my pile.

It was a bit of a beast to quilt, but I managed. I decided to keep the quilting simple with straight-ish lines and it worked beautifully for this quilt. My arms were defiantly getting a work out while quilting this bugger. I do love how it turned out, which is good since I'm not planning another queen size bed quilt for awhile!

It is so nice to finally be able to snuggle with one of my quilts at night. I love that this quilt is no longer in my WiP pile, but on my bed where it belongs! Now onto other quilts!!!
