906 Quilt | UP Pixel Quilt | A Finished Quilt | Scrap Project 5 | 2019 FAL

I am so excited to have to quilt completed! Truly a labor of love. Made with 1.092 low volume squares and 252 green squares. My family and I moved to the Upper Peninsula (UP) in December 2017. This was completely blind move and we love it up here. I enjoy having access to all of the trails for running in the summer and X-C skiing in the winter. So not long after our move, I started planning a UP quilt. Drawing inspiration from other pixel state quilts, I decided a pixel UP was in order.

Finally this past winter, with pattern drawn up. I started making a couple of test blocks, so I could decide what size I wanted to commit to making. After much debate with myself, I decided on 1.5 inch squares. Then I broke my pattern into 16 patch blocks and started sewing away. This was such a great way to bust through my low volume and green scraps!

I just had to include a picture of the back with all of the pressed open seams. There is something so beautiful about pressed open seams. This was such a fun project to work on, now I can't wait for a few projects to be completed around the house so I can proudly display my UP quilt. When it came time to name this quilt, I knew it had to be called the 906 Quilt. The entire UP is area code 906, so of course my quilt had to bear this name.

When it came time for pictures of this beauty, I just knew I had to be near a waterfall. So a couple of Sundays ago after church, we hopped in the car and drove to Munising, MI (near Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore) to take some pictures. Munising Falls and Wagner Falls provided a great backdrop for this quilt. Of course during our travels through the UP for awhile, I will be taking this quilt with me for more pictures! I know I say this about every quilt, but this truly is my favorite.

Happy Stitching!

Quilt Stats:
Pattern: 906 Quilt, designed by me
Dimensions: 28 inches x 48 inches
Quilting: Straight line
Fabrics: scraps from my low volume and green bins, lots of different designers

Linking up with Finished or Not Finished Friday.

  1. This one is so cool! I really like the idea of these pixel quilts. I think my state might be a bit boring! Have you looked at the outline of Wyoming? Plain and square ( maybe rectangle, but boring!) Two other states I have lived in, South Dakota and Arizona - both mostly squarish!!!! Dang it!

  4. This is amazingly cool! It just might have started wheels turning in my head to make one of my own, though I might include the lower peninsula as well, since I've lived here my whole life, just visiting the UP for vacations...

Mini Modern Maples Cushion Cover | Scrap Project 6

Ahh, I just love fall! Hands down my favorite season, especially in the UP. There are a few leaves starting to change color and I'm so excited. I'm looking forward to a color tour in a few weeks and really hope I have a few quilts done so I can take some quilt in the wild photos. So with fall rolling in, I figured I would make a fun little fall inspired cushion cover. And since I've been on small scale sewing kick, I thought a mini modern maple cover was just what I needed for my living room. Plus, lets face it this was just a perfect reason to dig through the scrap bins and use up those small little scraps. My mini maple block finishes at 3 inches and when added to a mini 9 patch block it makes for a lovely scrappy cushion cover. For the quilting a did a orange peel design and while a little wonky, I love it! Lately I've been at a lose as to what I want to quilt on my quilts, so this was a nice change. I quilted this cover on my Janome HD9. This bab

2017 New Quilt Blogger Blog Hop

for the last several weeks i have been participating in the 2017 New Quilt Bloggers Blog Hop, hosted by Yvonne ( Quilting Jet Girl ), Beth ( Cooking Up Quilts ), and Leanne ( She Can Quilt ). while i have been blogging for a little while, this blog hop has been great to hone my blogging skills and meet other quilt bloggers. i have been crafty most of my life, i even learned to sew when i was younger. but it didn't really stick. after college i was living in Iowa and on a whim i bought a cheap sewing machine and began a back and forth with sewing. fast forward a few years, i got married and pulled that sewing machine out again and this time actually made a quilt top (that sat for at least 3 years before i quilted it). sewing again was pushed to the side as i was finishing my master's program and job hunting.  well after landing a job, moving, looking for a house. we found out we were expecting. though it was not to be and i miscarried in march 2011. during the next ye

Modern Green Bay Packers Sampler Quilt | A Finished Quilt

Shortly after we moved to the UP 3 years ago, I was browsing Pinterest as one does and found this quilt . Being originally from the lower peninsula of Michigan that we must be Lion fans. Well I was never really a Lions fan and my husband and I don't watch football at all. We became friends with a couple who love the Packers, so I started pulling fabrics and slowly making blocks. After 3 years in the making it is finally done and our friends love it. During the initial shutdown for COVID-19, I really starting going to town on this quilt. Plus I had my 2020 Triple Block Bee-mates help with the filler cross blocks. This was a nice project that I could just loose myself in. Besides doing virtual schooling with my kiddo, my afternoons were spent in my sewing room. I went through so much stash! I didn't do any planning when I began sewing the blocks, so putting this together was a bit of a challenge. But it was like a giant puzzle and I like how it turned out. Now I have other idea
