WiP Wednesday : Scrappy projects

Another week, another set of wip's!

I finished piecing the Doctor Who quilt blocks and managed to get them sewn together for a top. I even have my backing fabric prepped, now I just need my girls to cooperate so I can baste while my hubby is at work. I want to surprise him with this quilt on Christmas morning! Wish me luck!!

I started a few postage stamp blocks for my next Quilt the Book projects. I'm going to be making it scrappy and use up some leftover fabric from other quilts. I think it is going to be cute. Who doesn't love Dr. Seuss?!

In my spare sewing moments I have also been working on the Moda Sampler Shuffle. I'm hoping this week I can get caught up.

Well that's all for now, Happy Sewing!

  1. Your WIP's look great. Good luck finding time to baste. I have a toddler who likes to "help" basting when I don't finish up while he's napping.

    1. Thanks! My toddler loves "helping" mama if I didn't finish basting as well.

  2. Really like how the pattern of your first quilt plays with negative space (the whites). Hey, I'm retired and somehow still find excuses for putting off work. I think when something takes up your time, you are more apt to get things done. Enjoy both your little ones and quilting.

Mini Modern Maples Cushion Cover | Scrap Project 6

Ahh, I just love fall! Hands down my favorite season, especially in the UP. There are a few leaves starting to change color and I'm so excited. I'm looking forward to a color tour in a few weeks and really hope I have a few quilts done so I can take some quilt in the wild photos. So with fall rolling in, I figured I would make a fun little fall inspired cushion cover. And since I've been on small scale sewing kick, I thought a mini modern maple cover was just what I needed for my living room. Plus, lets face it this was just a perfect reason to dig through the scrap bins and use up those small little scraps. My mini maple block finishes at 3 inches and when added to a mini 9 patch block it makes for a lovely scrappy cushion cover. For the quilting a did a orange peel design and while a little wonky, I love it! Lately I've been at a lose as to what I want to quilt on my quilts, so this was a nice change. I quilted this cover on my Janome HD9. This bab

Geometric Captain America Shield : Free Pattern

so a couple of months ago, i signed up for the MARVELous Craft Swap through Instagram hosted by  @justjoshinkids . what i love about swaps is the chance to try something new. for this swap i wanted to try and design a paper pieced pattern based on Captain America's Shield. and taking my inspiration from @quietplay i made the pattern geometric, so i could make the shield more scrappy in nature. i used the free quilt design program called QuiltAssistant to design my pattern. after figuring out what the heck i was doing, i finally landed on a pattern that worked. with a few minor tweaks here and there, i am happy how it turned out. the pattern finishes at 13 inches square, but i slightly oversized it, so i could trim the edges down to 12.5 inches, to finish at 12 inches. I loved designing this pattern and have a few more in the works that I hope to release as well. You can find this pattern on Payhip . This pattern is for personal, not for profit use only. If you do

Bonnie & Camille Sampler Quilt | A Finished Quilt

so last year i taught a BOM at my local quilt shop. i had already made up the sample quilt, so i needed to make blocks along with my students. well thank goodness for a couple of Bonnie & Camille layer cakes just waiting for the perfect project. the blocks are for the Vice Versa Sampler Quilt from AnnaMarie Chaney ( here is my original quilt ) but this time i decided use the Bonfire Sampler (also from AnnaMarie Chaney) setting for this set of blocks. i love those big HST they just work for this quilt! i just love this quilt and always knew it would be given to someone. i just didn't know who that someone would be. well as i was quilting this up, it finally occurred to me who i would send this along too. when we moved, one of the girl's church grandmas was rather heartbroken that we were moving. so i sent this to her as a surprise and when it showed up she called telling me that this just made her day! and that right there is why i quilt!
