Quilt the Book : Sweet Cheeks

Well I did it, I finished my first quilt for my Quilt the Book project! Of course it has taken me nearly a month to actually post about it, but life with a 2.5 year old and 5 month old doesn't allow for much blogging time, when my free time I want to sew more often than not.

I decided that I am not going to go in any particular order, so I decided on Sweet Cheeks, since I've had this Green Eggs and Ham fabric for about a year and just didn't know what to do with it. And this pattern just seemed like a perfect fit. After adding a few other fabrics to round out colors, I was set. This quilt was sourced 100% from my stash, including the backing and binding. (The batting as well, I love making frankenbatting and it's a great way to use up scraps!)

I begin doing free motion quilting in the large square and was really getting into. Well then the pin on my FMQ foot broke and since I just wanted to finish this quilt so I could donate it to my quilt guild the next day I decided to just do a different type of quilting in the different blocks. Plus this was a great way to practice some fun quilting.

Now I have a start on my Quilt the Book project and now it's time to start planning the next quilt!

Mini Modern Maples Cushion Cover | Scrap Project 6

Ahh, I just love fall! Hands down my favorite season, especially in the UP. There are a few leaves starting to change color and I'm so excited. I'm looking forward to a color tour in a few weeks and really hope I have a few quilts done so I can take some quilt in the wild photos. So with fall rolling in, I figured I would make a fun little fall inspired cushion cover. And since I've been on small scale sewing kick, I thought a mini modern maple cover was just what I needed for my living room. Plus, lets face it this was just a perfect reason to dig through the scrap bins and use up those small little scraps. My mini maple block finishes at 3 inches and when added to a mini 9 patch block it makes for a lovely scrappy cushion cover. For the quilting a did a orange peel design and while a little wonky, I love it! Lately I've been at a lose as to what I want to quilt on my quilts, so this was a nice change. 2017 New Quilt Blogger Blog Hop

for the last several weeks i have been participating in the 2017 New Quilt Bloggers Blog Hop, hosted by Yvonne ( Quilting Jet Girl ), Beth ( Cooking Up Quilts ), and Leanne ( She Can Quilt ). while i have been blogging for a little while, this blog hop has been great to hone my blogging skills and meet other quilt bloggers. i have been crafty most of my life, i even learned to sew when i was younger. but it didn't really stick. after college i was living in Iowa and on a whim i bought a cheap sewing machine and began a back and forth with sewing. fast forward a few years, i got married and pulled that sewing machine out again and this time actually made a quilt top (that sat for at least 3 years before i quilted it). sewing again was pushed to the side as i was finishing my master's program and job hunting. well after landing a job, moving, looking for a house. we found out we were expecting. though it was not to be and i miscarried in march 2011. during the next ye...

Spellbound Quilted Cushion Covers

I'm off to a great start for the third quarter of the finish-a-long . I started these cushion covers back in February, after I purchased the Mini Quick Curve Ruler and wanted to play with it. I have really come to love piecing curves. And these curves are so easy to sew up. I picked up some Spellbound by Cotton + Steel last fall at my LQS. Since I already had a few Halloween mini quilts, I figured cushions would be perfect for some fall decor (let's be honest this will be on my couch very soon and won't be removed until Thanksgiving!) For each cushion I decided to do a different layout, as I didn't want them to be matchy matchy. The fabric coordinates and that was plenty for me. Once I started quilting them, I was on a roll and didn't want to stop until I had finished these bad boys. I love the curved herringbone of the cushion.
